Q&A with Dr. Daniele Green – Best of the City Winner 2025
What qualifications or credentials should patients look for when selecting a cosmetic dentist?
Patients should look for a dentist with advanced training in cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry, not just general practice experience. I recommend choosing someone who pursues continuing education and has specialized training in aesthetics and function. I completed advanced training at the Kois Center, which focuses on comprehensive cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. A strong before-and-after portfolio and collaboration with skilled ceramists are also key indicators of expertise and quality.
How do you help patients visualize their results before starting a treatment plan?
I use a combination of 2D and 3D tools to help patients visualize their results before starting treatment. With 2D digital smile design and photography, patients can see how changes might look on their face. Then, with a 3D “smile test drive,” I create a physical mock-up that fits over their teeth, allowing them to see and feel the proposed changes. We want to validate the project before the final permanent smile is created and delivered.
What role does digital technology play in modern cosmetic dentistry?
Digital technology plays a major role in modern cosmetic dentistry. It allows me to plan treatments with greater precision and efficiency, using tools like 3D scanners, digital smile design, and CAD/CAM systems. These technologies help ensure more predictable outcomes, better communication with patients and ceramists, and a smoother overall experience—from planning to final delivery of the smile.
What makes your approach to cosmetic dentistry unique or different from others in the field?
What makes my approach unique is how deeply I listen to and connect with my patients—I want to truly understand their goals, concerns, and vision for their smile. I also have a genuine love for beauty and continually learn from key industry figures and the leading technology producers so I can deliver excellent results that will surpass my patients’ expectations.
When someone isn’t happy with their overall smile, what are some of the options available to improve it?
Whenever patients tell me they’re not happy with their smile, I begin by asking deeper questions so I can have a complete understanding of what’s bothering them and what would make them feel confident and proud. I also learn about their long-term goals and expectations. From there, we explore options ranging from conservative to more dramatic, review images or 3D models, and build a personalized treatment plan. Common options include professional whitening, bonding, Invisalign, veneers, gum contouring, or a full smile makeover.
What key factors do you take into account when creating a personalized smile makeover plan for a patient?
When creating a personalized smile makeover plan, I consider key factors such as gender, face shape, age, and the patient’s goals—whether they want to recreate a previous smile or design something entirely new. If a patient hopes to restore a former smile, I’ll ask for photos from earlier in life to share with my ceramist so we can replicate those features as closely as possible. One recent example is a woman in her late 60s who wanted to recreate the smile she had in her 30s. She didn’t have photos of herself from that time, but her daughter had a very similar facial structure. We used her daughter’s photos as a reference, and the result was incredible—my patient was overjoyed with how beautiful her new smile turned out.
What elements are most important when designing a smile that looks natural and balanced?
When designing a natural, balanced smile, I focus on harmony between the teeth, lips, and facial features. Tooth size, shape, and color should complement the patient’s face and age. I also look at smile symmetry, gumline, and how much tooth shows when speaking or smiling. The goal is always a result that enhances their natural beauty—never something that looks artificial or overdone.
Can you explain what smile proportion is and why it plays such a crucial role in achieving a beautiful smile?
Smile proportion refers to the relationship between the size and shape of each tooth and how they align within the smile and face. One key principle I use is the “golden proportion,” which helps guide how visible each front tooth should be when viewed from the front. This balance—along with factors like symmetry, midline alignment, and tooth dimensions—ensures the smile looks naturally beautiful and well-proportioned to the face.
