Dentures in Newport Beach

Gum disease, tooth decay, and injury are all reasons why people lose their natural teeth. Losing most or all of your teeth can cause facial muscles to sag and make you look older. As a tried-and-true method that has been used for many years, dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. At Coastal Smiles in Newport Beach, cosmetic dentist Dr. Daniele Green, DDS, specializes in restorative dentistry services that include the fitting of dentures.

Types of Dentures

Unlike the “old days,” today’s dentures are custom-made with innovative materials that closely resemble your natural teeth. At Coastal Smiles, we fit patients with these types of dentures:

Full Dentures – When you lose several consecutive teeth, full, or “complete,” dentures can be used to replace all your teeth along one or both jaws. Full dentures are now available in different styles, materials, and price points, allowing a highly-trained dentist like Dr. Green to treat each patient based on their individual needs.

Partial Dentures – As the name implies, partial dentures (bridge) serve to fill in a gap when only one or two natural teeth are missing. With today’s advanced denture-creating technologies, partial dentures can now be custom designed and uniquely colored to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.

Implant-Retained Dentures – This newer procedure allows Dr. Green to connect all the teeth in an arch (overdenture) with as few as four dental implants. Although all types of dentures are available in our practice, we advise patients to choose implant-retained dentures because there is less movement while eating or speaking, along with the fact they feel and function more like real teeth.

Immediate Dentures – This removable denture is inserted on the same day that the remaining teeth are extracted. To prepare you for immediate dentures, Dr. Green will take measurements and make models of your jaw during a preliminary visit. This allows you to avoid being without teeth during a healing period. However, your denture may still need to be relined or remade once your jaw has completely healed.

Are There Alternatives to Dentures?

Although today’s innovative dentures look and feel more like natural teeth, potential downsides include chewing and speaking discomfort, and that they require daily care and special dietary considerations.

As a premier tooth-replacement alternative, dental implants are indicated when teeth are missing or broken down due to gum disease, tooth decay, or trauma. With proper planning, placement, and postoperative care, dental implants look, feel, and function just like natural teeth.

Unlike dentures, dental implants function as a single unit while providing the added benefit of preserving bone in the area they are placed in. And as opposed to dentures or a bridge, an implant also reduces the likelihood of future bone loss. For more information about dental implants, contact our office today.

Are They Right for You?

When you are missing one or more teeth, dentures can be comfortably used to fill in the gaps and provide you with a full set of working teeth. As a more economical restorative solution, dentures can also be custom-designed to closely resemble your natural teeth so your appearance doesn’t change much.

In addition to making it easier to eat and speak better than you could without teeth, dentures can even improve the look of your smile and help prevent gum disease. The best way to determine if dentures are the right restorative option for you is by scheduling a smile consultation appointment with Dr. Green.
